In A Blind (winter), Poppy Jones (b.1985) has employed a complex blending of mediums to produce this sumptuous, abstracted representation of a Venetian blind. This piece began as a photograph that Jones then transferred onto a piece of recycled suede through a process of monotype printing and subsequent overpainting. While the repetitive verticals of A Blind (winter) might feel austere on their own, the deep crimson colour of the piece lends it a somewhat seductive quality. This is furthered by Jones’ decision to print on suede; the material adds to the work a softness and a tactility that excites our sense of touch.
