Louise Lawler (b. 1947) is a key artist of the Pictures Generation, most known for her practice of photographing other artists’ works, highlighting the sometimes overlooked spaces they are shown in – be it an auction house, storage area or collector’s home.
Produced on the occasion of the artist’s 2004 solo exhibition, Looking Forward, at Metro Pictures in New York, this gift wrap features a repeating image of a Damien Hirst spin painting situated in a – likely art fair – storage cupboard.
This gift wrap is held in the collection of MoMA, New York and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
