A one-of-a-kind Polaroid by one of the world’s most important artists. Stamped by the Estate of Andy Warhol, this iconic image depicts a still life of the legendary artist’s essential tools: paint, pens and camera.
Warhol described his Polaroid camera as his ‘pencil and paper’ and many of the images he took served as subjects for his instantly recognisable drawings, silkscreens, and paintings.
‘These were exercises in spatial relationships, taking the simplest of subjects and turning them into symbolic motifs,’ described Loring Knoblauch. ‘It is a testament to his artistic vision that he was able to make even the most mundane somehow glamorous.’
Artist’s Materials and Camera (1982) was included in the exhibition Andy Warhol Still-Life Polaroids that ran at Kasmin Gallery in New York that ran from October 2008 – January 2009.
