Ceyda Karatas (b. 1989, Istanbul, Turkey) is a London-based artist whose intricate, meticulously-produced works on paper explore notions of sensuality and intimacy through the depiction of organic and semi-abstract forms such as flowers and plants. Working in a lineage of artists including Hans Bellmer, Domenico Gnoli, Georgia O’Keeffe, Francesca Woodman and Ana Mendieta, she observes her wish to ‘create a sense of metamorphosis… not a static condition but a state of becoming. [A] state of the in-between belongs to the realm of eros, as it binds several others in one body.’
Ceyda Karatas lives and works in London, UK. In 2019, Karatas graduated with an MA in painting from Slade School of Fine Art. Prior to that, Karatas completed a BA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, London (2017).
