Prem Sahib

b. 1982

Prem Sahib (b.1982, London) currently lives and works in London. Sahib interrogates sexuality, community and desire, inscribing slick Modernist aesthetics with autobiographical content. While devoid of literal human form, Sahib encourages an empathetic relationship between the viewer and his work. In the ‘sweat panel’ series, beads of resin are painstakingly applied to panels of anodised aluminium to produce hyper-realistic facsimiles of condensation covered surfaces. Sahib evokes the feel of sweaty bodies in motion, an intimate meditation on touch and contact that reimagines and reinvigorates Minimalist concerns of bodily awareness.

Sahib completed his BA in Fine Art at The Slade School of Fine Art in 2006 before receiving his MA in Material & Visual Culture from University College London in 2008. Sahib has presented numerous solo shows Southard Reid, London (2020); The Hayward Gallery, London (2018); Kunstverein Hamburg, Hamburg (2017) and The Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2015). Sahib has featured in group shows at Malmö Konstmuseum, Malmö (2021); The Whitechapel Gallery (2019); The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas (2019) and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2016). His work is held in several public collections internationally.
