Ding Shilun 丁士伦 (b.1998, Guangzhou) constructs imagined and fantastical paintings that – through the depiction of beguiling figures – render the altered states that oscillate in our minds. In his drawings and paintings, Ding bridges languages of expressionism, surrealism and manga to distil layered and conflicting worlds that he names ‘reflections of reality.’
Ding Shilun lives and works in London. Ding completed his BA in Painting at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art, China and during this time completed a year of exchange at Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2019. In 2022, Ding will graduate with an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London. Recent exhibitions include Mythopoeia, curated by Amanda Ba, ACROSSS, London; and Inside Out, The Artist Room, London (both 2022); and A Corner Garden, Payne Y.Loh Art Space, Beijing; Work in Progress 2021, Royal College of Art, London; Glory, Making Space, Guangzhou; and ABNORMAL, LPS Gallery, Guangzhou (all 2021).
